This privacy policy explains how UKTaxTools ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and protects information when you visit uktaxtools.net. We take your privacy seriously and have designed this site to collect as little data as possible.
1. Who We Are
UKTaxTools is a free online resource providing UK tax calculators and tools. The website is operated as a sole trader service based in the United Kingdom. If you have any questions about this policy, you can contact us at: privacy@uktaxtools.net.
2. What Data We Collect
Calculator inputs
All calculations on this site happen entirely within your browser. Numbers you enter into any calculator are never transmitted to our servers and are never stored, logged or shared. When you close or refresh the page, your inputs are gone. We have no access to them whatsoever.
Usage data (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site โ for example, which pages are most popular, how long people spend on the site, and which country visitors come from. Google Analytics collects anonymised data including your approximate location (country/city level), device type, browser, and the pages you visit. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.
Google Analytics uses cookies to distinguish returning visitors from new ones. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Advertising data (Google AdSense)
We display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings, or by visiting aboutads.info. Opting out does not mean you will stop seeing ads โ it means ads will not be personalised to you.
For more information on how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see: How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps.
3. Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. UKTaxTools itself does not set any first-party cookies. However, third-party services we use (Google Analytics and Google AdSense) do set cookies. These are summarised below.
Google Analytics cookies โ used to distinguish users and sessions, and to track usage patterns. These cookies do not store personally identifiable information.
Google AdSense cookies โ used to serve relevant advertisements and limit how often you see the same ad. These may be used by Google and its advertising partners across different websites.
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect how parts of the site function. Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies or delete existing ones โ see your browser's help documentation for instructions.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (UK GDPR)
Where we process personal data (such as analytics data), we do so under the following legal bases as defined in the UK GDPR:
Legitimate interests โ we have a legitimate interest in understanding how our site is used so we can improve it. Analytics data is anonymised and aggregated.
Consent โ for personalised advertising via Google AdSense, processing is based on your consent where required. You may withdraw consent at any time via Google's Ads Settings linked above.
5. Data Retention
We do not store any calculator inputs or personal data on our own servers. Google Analytics retains data for 14 months by default, after which it is automatically deleted. For information on Google's data retention practices, see Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Third-Party Links
Our site contains links to external websites including HMRC, GOV.UK and other resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We recommend you read their privacy policies when you visit them.
7. Children's Privacy
UKTaxTools is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
8. Your Rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to access, correct or request deletion of any personal data we hold about you. As we do not store personal data on our own systems, there is generally no data for us to provide or delete. For data held by Google, please contact Google directly or use the tools at myaccount.google.com.
If you have a concern about how we handle your data, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
